6 Tips For Taking Amazing Photos When Travelling – Our Guide

Thanks to the rise of social media, many have been putting a lot of effort into taking great photos for their accounts. Social media has also paved the way to beautiful places all over the world to be known. As these places become more exposed to many, it has encouraged a lot of people to travel and visit places they’ve never been to.

Whether or not you’re posing for the “gram” or you simply want good photos to look back on, here are a few tips to help you take amazing photos when travelling.

1. Know how your camera works

Today, you have more access to good cameras that can give you high-quality photos with just a click. However, if you want to make the most out of it and take excellent photos, you must know how it works. Familiarise yourself with the functions of your camera. Spend some time reading the manual, watch tutorial videos on YouTube, or read up on articles about it online. Doing these things will help you get the most out of your camera and enable you to take excellent photos.

2. Follow the rule of thirds

The Rule of Thirds is one of the best ways to take interesting photos. You do this by mentally dividing the image with two horizontal lines and two vertical lines. Position the elements along those lines where they meet. This is how a lot of photographers frame their shots, which helps draw the viewer’s eye into the entire composition.

3. Try unique angles

If you need to crouch down or climb a wall to get “THE” shot, why not? If you want to take good travel photos, you must be willing to get your hands a little dirty. You might be surprised how awkward positions can give you unique angles that will make your photos look amazing!

4. Take photos during the golden hour

Do you know that the first hour and the last hour of light in the day are the best? That’s the “golden hour” and it’s when there’s beautiful, natural lighting that you can take advantage of for outdoor photography. The best time to go if you don’t want to get caught up in crowds of people will be during the early morning hours.

5. Always have a tripod

If you frequently travel, then it’s a good idea to invest in a tripod. This is also a great idea if you’re travelling alone – as you no longer have to go up to strangers to have your photo taken. Also, a tripod can help with flowing water scenes and other slow exposure photography, as well as taking a family photo right smack in the middle of a beautiful landscape.

6. Tell a story

A photo is indeed worth a thousand words, so make sure to tell a whole story. Capture as many details as you can, take wide-angle shots, zoom into smaller details and so on. Let your photos tell the story of your adventures.

Keep these tips in mind the next time you travel, and you will be able to produce amazing photos. Unleash your creativity as you capture the special moments of your trip.
