Day 1 – El Calafate (D)
After arriving in the Argentinian town of El Calafate, you will be whisked away to the hotel to freshen up and relax for a while. In the early evening, we will have a meet and greet with the group leader and guide before we enjoy a welcome dinner at one of the great local restaurants.
Day 2 – El Calafate => Perito Moreno Glacier (B, L, D)
Our first day shooting starts at Perito Moreno Glacier in Los Glaciares National Park. It was declared a “World Heritage” site in 1981 and named after explorer Francisco Moreno. This spectacular glacier is one of the very few glaciers in the world that is still advancing. The extensive boardwalk offers a range of different views to photograph, ranging from the close-up details of the ice to the grand view spanning the full three and a half miles of the glacier front wall. The frequent calving is what makes Perito Moreno Glacier so special.
Day 3 – El Calafate => El Chalten (B, L, D)
We depart for El Chalten passing through the Patagonian desert along the way. The drive through the desert is stunning and only gets better as we get closer to this quaint mountain town. The approach to El Chalten provides a stunning vista as the desert veers sharply upwards to the magnificent Fitz Roy range. We will get our first taste of photographing these iconic peaks from the road and rivers that lead to and from these impressive peaks.
Day 4 to 6 – El Chalten => Fitz Roy (B, L, D)
We will spend 3 full days in the area, shooting the Fitz Roy, the Cerro Torre, and the rest of the peaks in the range. The best light to shoot is in the early morning, where the light turns the granite red-orange. We will explore different locations for sunrise before heading for breakfast back in town. In the afternoons we will explore different trails that offer alternative views and angles of the mountains, explore unspoiled forests and numerous cascades. El Chalten has become a hub for hikers and mountaineers from all over the world and is well worth exploring. Since we will be spending 3 days in El Chalten and Fitz Roy, the exact order in which we explore this area will be determined on the weather and conditions.
Day 7 – Fitz Roy => Torres del Paine, Chile (B, L, D)
We will be heading out early for Torres del Paine National Park in Chile. We will drive through the Patagonian desert stopping at La Leona. La Leona was originally a base to explore the Fitz Roy but gained notoriety for hosting legendary outlaws such as Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. After crossing the border to Chile we will take a break for lunch and enjoy the outpost town Rio Don Guillermo. This is a long driving day but it will be worth every minute as the views are spectacular. The drive climaxes with our arrival into the park.
Day 8 to 10 – Torres del Paine (B, L, D)
We will spend the next 3 full days visiting the park, including Laguna Amarga, Cascada Paine, Salto Grande, Grey Glacier, Lake Pehoe and Lake Nordenskjold. Torres del Paine is arguably the prettiest park in Patagonia. Our hotel’s amazing location right on the lake with unobstructed views of the Torres Del Paines awe-inspiring peaks, and the locality to so many points of interest makes for the perfect place to stay. We will be photographing from a range of vistas carefully selected by your photography tutor and guide. There are so many places to shoot and the park is so incredibly beautiful that three days certainly won’t feel long enough. From walks through forests, to icebergs, to turquoise coloured waters, to rugged mountains, to guanacos, condors, and flamingos, Torres del Paine quite literally has it all.
Day 11 – Torres del Paine => El Calafate (B, L, D)
After a sunrise shoot and breakfast, we make the long drive back to El Calafate for our last night in Patagonia. In the evening we will recap our adventure and enjoy a wonderful departing dinner.
Day 12 – El Calafate (B)
Your morning is free to enjoy breakfast, checkout and transfer to the airport for your return flight home or elsewhere in South America.
