Why you should come to our Isle of Skye photography workshop

Scotland is one of the world’s best landscape photography locations. Our Isle of Skye workshop is designed to guide you to the most photogenic locations at the best time to visit. That’s one of the reasons we avoid running these workshops in the summer months.

We will teach you how best to utilise the light available and to aid you in visualising and preparing a scene. We will teach you how to use filters in difficult lighting conditions and work with you to improve your composition.

On this workshop, our expert tutors Kav Dadfar or Jordan Banks will help you train yourself to see and harness your creativity. You will learn how to survey the landscape, and utilise your environment. Not only will you take home an amazing set of images from Skye, but continue to put your new skills to use. Our time together will include individual discussions, inspiring ideas, and some world-class scotch.

Private tours

We have always believed that small groups are best for travelling. Not only are they safer to run and manage. But they are also much more sustainable and responsible. This is even more important for a photography course where learning is key.

For this reason, we run all our UK workshops as private tours. This means workshops can be tailored to exactly what you want to achieve. Whether it’s a night photography tour or landscape photography, imagine how much you could learn in a few days with a private instructor to guide you!

*Private tours are open to groups should you already be two or more people looking to attend the workshop.

Isle of Skye Landscape Photography Workshop Tentative Itinerary

Day 1 – Eilean Donan Castle => Isle of Skye

Our meeting point for this workshop will be Eilean Donan Castle. We will meet late afternoon in time for sunset. After a brief discussion and some pointers from the tutor, we dive straight into our first shoot of this magical castle. We will hang around and capture the blue hour when the castle is lit up.

After our shoot, we will continue onto our hotel on the Isle of Skye.

Day 2 – Talisker Bay => Sligachan Bridge => Elgol Bay (B)

Our itinerary on the Isle of Skye will be somewhat flexible to take advantage of the best conditions for the various locations we will be photographing.

On day 2 we will be aiming to photograph Talisker Bay early in the morning. This beautiful beach has a waterfall at one end and a sea stack at the other end. The stone and sand beach looks very photogenic during low tide. We will then make a stop at the Talisker Distillery to sample some of the famous Scottish whiskey.

In the afternoon we will stop by the picturesque Sligachan Bridge before driving on one of the most beautiful roads in Scotland to Elgol Bay for sunset.

Day 3 – Quiraing => Fairy Glen => Portree => Loch Fada => Old Man Of Storr (B)

Today we will cover two of the most stunning photographic location in the whole of the United Kingdom. We start with the magnificent landscape of the Quiraing at sunrise. The backdrop to many Hollywood movies, it is quite possibly the finest landscape photography location in Scotland. We then make our way to Fairy Glen – often described as a miniature Quiraing.

We’ll spend a little while exploring the pretty town of Portree before snapping some shots of the Old Man of Storr from Loch Fada. It’s then time to hike up to capture photos of the Old Man of Storr at sunset.

Day 4 – Neist Point => Dunvegan Castle => Fairy Pools (B)

We will get to Neist Point for sunrise when the early morning light illuminates the cliffs and lighthouse. It’s a beautiful location that offers lots of different compositions. On our way back to our hotel we’ll stop at Dunvegan Castle to capture this charming castle from across the water. If the conditions are right there will be a lovely reflection in the water.

In the afternoon it’s all about the iconic Fairy Pools. These series of waterfalls do seem like they are from a fairytale. This is a fantastic location that deserves a whole afternoon.

Day 5 – Eilean Donan Castle => Glenfinnan => End of Tour (B)

It’s our last day together so this morning we will either go back to somewhere that we didn’t have the right conditions for previously or we’ll go to Eilean Donan Castle for a sunrise shoot to get a different shot.

We will then make the drive to Glenfinnan with its famous viaduct to hopefully capture a photo of the steam train going over. There are also photo opportunities of Loch Shiel, so plenty to keep us occupied.

Once we have finished photographing in this area we’ll have a final catch up and look over some images before we say our goodbyes and go our separate ways.
