Why you should come on our Dubrovnik photography workshop

Dubrovnik is what all fairy-tale Mediterranean cities should look like. It is no wonder that it is nicknamed the “pearl of the Adriatic”. This charming old city has played host to many a Hollywood film and TV show. Maybe it is the turquoise blue water or the way the city walls glow in the afternoon light, but Dubrovnik is a perfect location for photography.

Who better to guide you around Dubrovnik than Jordan Banks who spent years living in this region. So this tour is not only designed to take you to the most photogenic locations but also to locations that only insiders know about. Your days will cover a wide range of scenarios both involving setup shoots and natural street photography. There will be sunrises and sunsets to capture, and settings to master with challenging light conditions to tackle. By the time you arrive back home, you will have a better knowledge of photography and some amazing photos.

Dubrovnik Photography Workshop Itinerary

Day 1 (L, D)

We will meet at our hotel before walking to the War Photo gallery in Dubrovnik’s Old Town. We will then do our meet and greet before we jump right into the course. We will start our workshop by discussing the principles of travel photography and the art of seeing and capturing that decisive moment. We will then make our way onto the streets of the Old Town to photograph markets, Stradun, the harbour, and the street life that makes this city so wonderful. In the late afternoon we will head up to the city walls for our evening shoot. Through our contact it has been arranged that we will be able to photograph the city from the walls after they have closed to the public. Watching the sunset and the lights come on is quite a sight and the perfect example of a unique photographic perspective. Dinner will be in one of Dubrovnik’s best restaurants with stunning views over the Old Town.

Day 2 (B, L, D)

We get up early to head out to our sunrise location before heading back to the Old Town. Participants can then choose to either photograph the town with its market and port life in full swing, or walk the city walls. The city walls in the early morning light offer a completely different perspective but are just as magical. After lunch we will head back to the War Photo gallery for course discussions, backing-up, and workflow, and an open discussion on things that people may struggle with. In the afternoon we will take the cable car up to the top of Srdj mountain offering unparalleled views and photo opportunities overlooking Dubrovnik and the surrounding islands. The panoramic restaurant will be our dinner spot for this evening.

Day 3 (B, L, D)

Another early morning as we drive south to Montenegro and the beautiful town of Sveti Stefan for our sunrise shoot. After breakfast we make the short journey to Kotor & Perast where we will explore these stunning towns perfectly situated in the bay of Kotor. Our sunset shoot will consist of two options – either held high on the city walls of Kotor overlooking the old town, bay, and mountains or on the shore of the picture perfect Perast. After dinner in Kotor we will make the short journey back to Dubrovnik.

Day 4 (B, L, D)

Our sunrise shoot will be at yet another of Dubrovnik’s incredible locations. After breakfast we will head back to the War Photo gallery to concentrate on editing and the business of photography. We will then have a packed lunch as we take the journey to the Bosnian city of Mostar for an afternoon exploration of Stari Grad. We will then head down to the emerald green Neretva river and sweeping views of the famous bridge. Dinner will be in one of Mostars stunning riverside restaurants before we head to our hotel for the night.

Day 5 (B, L, D)

An early morning shoot in the Old Town where will photograph some models (fitting to the surroundings). After lunch we will head back to Dubrovnik where we will go through our final parts of the course. There will also be an opportunity for open discussion and image critique. For those that sill have the energy we will be heading for one final sunset shoot before our farewell dinner in Dubrovnik port.

Day 6 (B)

After breakfast we will say our goodbyes before heading off on our journeys home.
